Meal Services
We are happy to share the news that the USDA has extended the Summer Feeding Program for all children up to 18 years of age. This means all students in the Belton School District can receive meals at no cost. At this time, the extension goes through September 30, 2021. These changes go into effect on Tuesday, September 8, 2020.
How this will impact your child:
ePirates (learning from home) can order their meals the night before and pick up between 9 - 9:30 am at Yeokum Center of Innovation, 613 Mill Street. Orders need to be placed by 7 pm the night before by simply filling out this form. The menu for ePirates can be found on our website. Students will receive meals at no cost.
We still encourage families to complete the meal benefits form if you have not yet done so. The form, while primarily designed to give families meal support, also provides Belton students with other educational opportunities that might not otherwise be available. If you are unable to fill out this form electronically or need a paper copy of the meal benefits form, please contact your child’s school office to have one sent to you.

My assignment answers keep disappearing when I want to submit them in Canvas!
Several teachers, students, and parents are reporting issues when students attempt to submit assignments in Canvas. This seems to be happening because:1. WiFi connection drops at the wrong time.2. What has been the most common reason: Students open assignments, start to work, decide to finish later, and leave the assignment open. When the student goes back to the assignment, finishes it, and tries to submit it, the assignment has timed out because of inactivity. And when the submission fails, the work is gone. We agree this is VERY frustrating.Hooray! We have solutions:Textbox Assignments:Students should not type straight into a textbox. Instead, they should type in a Google Doc or Notes. Then when they are really ready to submit, they should refresh the assignment, copy and paste the text into the textbox, and click to submit immediately. If anything goes wrong with the submission, they still have their work in Google Docs or in Notes.Google Cloud Assignments:Open the actual Google Doc, Slides, etc., and edit it there. It's important not to edit in the assignment, especially if you are going to leave the assignment. Then when you are ready to submit, refresh the assignment, which will update with the changes you made in the other tab. Click submit.Quizzes:Only start quizzes when you are ready to complete the WHOLE quiz. If you do have to leave during the quiz, copy and paste any text you have written into a Google Doc or Notes. The text will likely disappear if you try to submit later and it fails. If at first, an assignment fails to submit, you should refresh the assignment and try again. -
Password Problems?
Here's how your Pirate can reset their password:
- A parent will need to log into the Parent Portal to learn the student's Meal PIN if you do not know what that is.
- Click on Meal Services.
- Click on the "eye" to see the Meal PIN.
- School email usernames are the child's firstname.lastname
- Passwords are a combination of the child's initials and Meal PIN:
K-6 - jd123456 (all lowercase)
7-12 - Jd123456 (note the first letter is capitalized)

Select the grade level you need and on that page, you will find links for support, messages specific to our virtual ePirates, and more. We'll be updating these pages often, so if you miss an email or text, check there to see what's new! If you have suggestions for what might be of help on these pages, please reply to this email and we'll see what we can do.We thank you for your patience; we know this week will have some rough seas as we work through technology hiccups, connectivity issues, and establish routines with procedures, and build confidence using the tools at hand. The first week will be different for those learning in-person vs those learning at home, but there won't be curriculum or content missed: the in-person students are going over school and classroom procedures that won't apply to students learning at home. For all students, the classroom teacher is always the first and best source for support.
