- Belton School District
- Operational Questions
-
Will the district provide personal protective equipment (PPE)?
BSD will make available face coverings and face shields (where applicable) for use. You are also welcome to use your own face covering.
The district will also provide hand sanitizer dispensers for each classroom and a bleach/water solution and cloths for cleaning surfaces as needed.
-
Gloves should be provided to staff who have to handle items during breakfast and lunch with students.
We have provided the gloves to staff during summer school for meals in the classrooms. We would continue to do so during the regular school year.
-
What about the standard for having sprays in the classrooms for the students that have breathing issues and/or allergies?
Teachers will be made aware of students who have 504 plans or health plans and may need to work with the process coodinators and/or nurses to ensure compliance and safety for all involved.
-
No outside food deliveries applies to staff (*updated 10/9/20). Can we leave during our lunch break and get food if needed?
Yes. You are welcome to leave on your lunch break and/or other breaks.
The important piece is we do not want deliveries made to the schools. (so, no Jimmy John's, Panera, Papa John's, etc) If you need food ordered, you are to order from OPAA until further notice. If you order food from a restaurant and have it delivered, you will need to go outside to meet the delivery driver. We do not want people coming INTO the building.
If you are ordering for an event in your building, that also needs to go exclusively through OPAA at this time unless you plan to meet the delivery staff outside or go pick it up and bring it back to your location.
This is not a long term situation. We are working under critical conditions.
-
What happens to fire drills? Tornado drills? Active shooter drills? These are done multiple times per month and require close proximity.
No drills will be conducted when social distancing is required.
Staff will need to take time to talk students through what to do in the event of an emergency.
-
With breakfast in the classroom are our times changing for reporting to duty?
Kids will eat in class after the bell rings for the start of the day. Again, practices will become more efficient as we practice this new procedure.
Buildings may need to revisit before school duty assignments to ensure classrooms are staffed.
This is not a long term situation. We are working under critical conditions.
-
With students eating in the classroom, how are we addressing students who have food allergies?
We will follow the procedures we have in place.
We will provide guidance to teachers on what has been done during lunch and breakfast in the past so teachers can plan.
The school nurse will also need to be involved in planning with the teacher, as each child's specific allergies may need different actions.
-
How will the distribution of Backsnacks work?
New, clean plastic bags are used every time. Again, this would be a process that may need to be reviewed at the building level if changes for distribution to students is needed.
-
Will there be someone to supervise lunch in the classrooms?
The classroom teacher.
This is not a long term situation. We are working under critical conditions.
-
The guidelines recommend keeping doors propped open. Will Covid precautions overrule active shooter precautions?
Each door should have a flat, rectangular door magnet that is easily pulled off in a security situation so you can keep the door locked. If your door does not have one, notify your principal/supervisor.
-
Who is responsible for cleaning my classroom?
Ensuring the safety of our school community is a joint effort. It will rely on the partnership of teachers, students, and custodial staff. While custodians will implement enhanced cleaning procedures, students and staff members are required to support their operations.
Each classroom will be equipped with a wall-mounted hand sanitizer dispenser. Cleaning supplies will also be provided.
-
Can the dress code be relaxed? Can we wear scrubs?
Staff can wear "easy to wash" clothes; in other words, you can leave the dry clean clothes in your closet and wear scrubs, khakis, or other pants. Leggings are not acceptable.
The CDC says all clothing can still be washed according to the manufacturer's guidelines.
Jeans are still reserved for Fridays.
-
Will staff be able to use staff-only common areas?
Custodial staff will maintain this area more often as they will be doing with each classroom. Staff are also required to wear masks in these areas.
-
How much instructional time are we losing to temperature checks, delayed passing, sanitizing, etc?
This will be an ongoing process that will increase in efficiency as the year continues.
-
Will teachers be expected to provide supplies?
No. Providing basic school supplies are on parents. Students learning virtually have also been instructed to purchase school supplies.
