Dr. Terri Newman Named Next Belton High School Assistant Principal

During its closed session, the Board of Education approved Dr. Terri Newman as Belton High School Assistant Principal.

Dr. Newman has been in education for 21 years. She was a teacher and counselor at Midland Trail Elementary, where earned the State of Kansas School Counselor Program of Excellence Award and started the Girls on the Run program. She then served as counselor and cheer coach at Blue Valley North High School, where she sponsored Sources of Strength, a strength-based and upstream approach to mental health promotion and prevention of adverse outcomes. She currently serves as Oswatomie Middle School Principal in the Oswatomie School District.

“Working with high school students has been one of my favorite experiences as an educator,” says Dr. Newman. “It is so rewarding to watch students find their strengths and develop their potential both in the classroom and through activities and athletics. I can’t wait to become a part of the Pirate community and support all the great things happening at BHS!”

Dr. Newman earned her doctorate in educational leadership from Baker University. She earned her master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Emporia State University.
