Harvesters’ BackSnack program addresses weekend hunger by providing healthy, kid-friendly foods for children in our elementary schools. Harvesters provides the food, while volunteers pack food kits weekly at Harvesters. A community partnering organization picks up the boxes of food and deliveries them to area schools. School counselors distribute the backpacks each Friday to children, who in return, bring them back on Monday to start the whole process again. Families are able to stop participating at any time by contacting their school counselor.
For more information on how to be a recipient of a BackSnack, please contact your child's school counselor. Please be aware there can often be a waiting list for the program.
Community partners are needed to adopt schools for which they will clean, pack, and deliver backpacks every week during the school year. Contact Renee Miller (contact information at right) to explore partnership opportunities.
