Elementary Student Cell Phone/Smartwatch Guidelines

  •

In an effort to help students maintain an instructional focus, the District has updated these guidelines.  We ask that cell phones and smartwatches be kept turned off and in backpacks during the school day. Failure to comply with these expectations will result in the following consequences:

Level 1:  Teacher collects phone or watch & conferences with the student:  Returned to the student after a conference to put away appropriately.

Level 2:  Teacher collects phone or watch, takes it to the office & teacher contacts parents and updates parent contact log. Student collects phone or watch from the office at the end of the day.

Level 3:  Teacher collects phone or watch and takes it to the office.  Administration makes parent contact and updates the parent log. Consequence as assigned by building.  Parent is required to pick up the cell phone or watch.

Level 4:  Teacher collects phone or watch and takes it to the office.  Administration makes parent contact and updates the parent log. Consequence as assigned by building.  Parent is required to pick up the cell phone or watch. Parent meeting to formulate a mutual plan of success is required.

*Until the parent meeting takes place, the student must turn cell phone or watch into the office each morning.

Student Refusal in class: Student is sent to the office with referral for insubordination.  Consequence assigned based on the insubordination, the administration makes parent contact and updates the parent log, and phone or watch collected to be returned to parents.

Student Refusal in Office:  Administration makes parent contact and updates parent log.  Student reports to the Focus Room, where he/she remains until processing with an administrator.  Phone or watch check-in is a condition in order to return to class.

Reminder from BSD Technology Use Agreements:  Taking unapproved videos/photos of people and events at school, and/or the posting of such on any website is strictly forbidden.  No photos and/or videos may be taken at school without prior approval from teachers and/or administrators.
